The Dominican Republic is synonymous of long and paradisiac beaches of the Caribbean to where tourists flock to escape from big cities and hardly do anything but sunbathe. However, what many people may not know is that its capital, Santo Domingo, is the first Spanish capital in America, which is also synonymous of Latin American history.

Contrast to the tourist beaches, in the city you can find a particular traditional architecture and the essence of the past to keep alive by its inhabitants, bars and shops.

To discover the first European city in America is indispensable to visit the First Cathedral of America, the first Catholic cathedral in that continent, or the Church of the Convento Dominico, also first American convent. The history of Independence can be studied at the Museo Casa Duarte and the Altar of the Fatherland. The footprint of Columbus is also present with the Columbus’ Alcazar, the residence of Diego Columbus, son of Christopher Columbus.

But, without doubt, to know the past and present of this city, the Museum of History and Geography lets you travel the time before the discovery to more contemporary history.

The oldest Santo Domingo is in contrast to the huge current growth, especially because the construction, that turn it in a modern and cosmopolitan city in recent years, and one of the most modern capitals in the Caribbean.

It was formed in the Cenozoic Era and its relief has been the changes caused by the passage of ice ages. Its altitude is not unique, but represents a barrier to the winds that brings rain and snow that feed the ice fields and river flows.

This area of Patagonia enables you to move from the snowy mountains to breathtaking glacier lakes through imposing, and witness one of the most beautiful scenery in the world.

Its main tourist areas are San Carlos Bariloche, international tourist center and the most important winter sports Argentina. Other places that you must visit are the area lakes, especially Lake Argentino; the Perito Moreno glacier, a huge mass of ice that some call the eighth wonder of the world; and the town Ushuaia, the southernmost city on the planet, plus National Parks.

From here you can discover the Antarctic where the temperature of -90 degrees in winter can freeze anything.
